Keep Take 5 Alive

Take 5 is the core 'mindfulness-in-action' practice we teach in our in-person and online training. If you’ve brought the Challenge to your workplace and want to keep 'Take 5 Alive’, download this tip sheet. Remember, mindfulness is mental exercise and needs to be practiced!

E-MENTAL HEALTH BRIDGES THE GAP

A report issued earlier this month by the Mental Health Commission of Canada finds there's a 'crisis of access' when it comes to mental health services, in part because as stigma recedes more people are seeking care. E-mental health could play an important role in breaking up this logjam by extending reach, spawning additional access points and promoting higher quality care.  MindWell-U is honored to be included in the report which can be downloaded here.


Video

This video explains the benefits of mindfulness and introduces people to "Take 5", MindWell-U's core mindfulness practice that's woven throughout the 30 Day Mindfulness Challenge in order to make Take 5 a habit. 

Consider sharing the video with employees, playing before a team meeting or including in your mental health initiatives. 


Infographics

Included in the Challenge is a series of infographics which teach participants, among other things, how to hard wire happiness, get off 'Thought Trains' and be mindful in the middle of whatever they're doing. The Challenge teaches something called 'mindfulness-in-action'... no dark rooms, scented candles or yoga mats required!

These infographics could be shared with employees in a presentation, in print or on your intranet site. You could also release them one at a time or as a set.    HINT: involve management in the distribution of these in order to send a clear message to employees that mental health is supported by the organization.


Take 5 Podcast

Participants in the Challenge and their buddies (everyone who takes the 30 Day Mindfulness Challenge gets to include a buddy from outside the organization at no cost) are encouraged to listen to this Take 5 podcast and learn the steps so they can be present and mindful no matter what they are doing (in a meeting, commuting to work, having a difficult conversation, etc.). 

Share this 3 min podcast with your leaders and managers and have them play it before starting their next meeting. Wait until you see how attendees become more present, engaged and focused! 


Delivering the mental health benefits of mindfulness to men

The results of a two year MWU research study funded by the Movember Foundation determined that men are more likely to sign up for mindfulness training, which is proven to improve their mental health, if it's linked to:

  • Business

  • Sports

  • Performance

  • And delivered at work

Mindfulness & Millennials

Millennials suffer from more mental health issues than any previous generation with one in five reporting depression symptoms and 50% saying they regularly can't sleep because of stress (average for all generations is 33%). While two-thirds of depressed millennials report their symptoms may not be severe enough to keep them home, their capacity for quality work is greatly diminished if they do show up. 

The good news is that Millennials are embracing mindfulness and use this tool to help manage their stress, stay focused and increase happiness:

The United Kingdom uses mindfulness interventions to address mental health concerns in education, health, the workplace and the criminal justice system.

What an inspiration... among other things citizens can get a prescription for mindfulness which they can put through a benefits plan, British MPs study mindfulness in Parliament and its incorporated widely into the school curriculum.
