Celebrating 10 Years of Take 5

During Mental Health Week (May 4–10, 2026), MindWell celebrated 10 years of the Take 5 practice, a science-based mindfulness technique that has helped hundreds of thousands of people across North America reduce stress, build resilience, and improve focus.

To mark this milestone, MindWell opened its mindfulness platform free to the public, giving participants access to mindfulness tools and the live Take 5 anniversary event on May 5. During the event, MindWell founder, Dr. Geoff Soloway, shared the personal story behind the creation of the Take 5 mindfulness-in-action technique and how it became the foundation for MindWell (see video above).

Guests also discovered what’s next with the launch of MindWell House and can continue their well-being journey today with a free trial that includes access to Take 5 Daily training, the MindWell Coach, live classes, and a well-being self-assessment.

What is Take 5?

Take 5 is MindWell's core mindfulness-in-action practice, designed to help you quickly reduce stress, improve focus, and get back into the present moment. It's a simple tool you can use anytime, anywhere. It works by following five basic steps:

1. Notice the cue: Using environmental triggers to remind you to Take 5.

2. Notice something new: Shifting your attention to something previously unnoticed.

3. Notice the body: Grounding yourself through physical sensations.

4. Notice the breath: Deepening and lengthening for 5 conscious breaths.

5. Notice now: Observing the present moment with openness.

It helps by creating new neural pathways that help you de-stress, refocus, and optimize your performance. You can practice Take 5 while watching the video.
